Birdsville is an isolated town in the Australian Outback, located between the sands of the Simpson Desert and the plains of Sturt’s Stony Desert. The town originally was built as a ‘tariff wall’ between Queensland and South Australia for the droves of cattle being moved interstate. It now functions as the starting point of the famous Birdsville Track, and is best known for its pub and the annual horse race that draws crowds from all around.
