The Channel Islands are located in the English Channel in the Gulf of St. Malo, actually much closer to France than to England. They are made up of the Bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey. The Bailiwick of Guernsey includes the islands of Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, Herm and Jethou. They all enjoy a warmer and sunnier climate than the mainland, so it is just as well they have numerous sandy beaches. Both Jersey and Guernsey were occupied during World War II, and there are several museums housing extensive memorabilia.
