Copper Canyon is actually a series of more than 20 canyons running through the northern region of Mexico. The canyon covers over 20,000 square miles and is four times larger than the Grand Canyon in the United States. The scenery is breathtaking, the railroad line through the mountains impressive; and you will have a chance to see and learn something about the unassimilated Tarahumara Indians who live in the canyon. Although accessible by a dirt road through the mountains, the canyon is more comfortably visited by train. For a scenic journey through the heart of Copper Canyon, board a train in Los Mochis that way you can enjoy the view between El Fuerte and Creel during daylight hours.
