Exploring the Heart of Europe: Holland, Luxembourg, and Belgium

Hi, I’m Elizabeth Klitzka, a travel advisor in our Sheboygan office who specializes in travel to many European destinations! When it comes to picturesque landscapes, rich history, and vibrant cultures, few regions in Europe can compare to the enchanting trio of Holland, Luxembourg, and Belgium. Each of these countries offers a unique blend of experiences, making them a perfect choice for your next European adventure.

Let’s dive into what makes Holland, Luxembourg, and Belgium so special!

Holland

Holland often used interchangeably with the Netherlands, is a country known for its iconic windmills, fields of vibrant tulips, and network of meandering canals. The capital city, Amsterdam, is a bustling hub of art, culture, and history. Explore world-class museums like the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, or take a stroll along the picturesque canals, discovering charming neighborhoods like Jordaan and De Pijp.

But Holland is not just about Amsterdam. Venture beyond the capital to discover the charming countryside adorned with windmills, cheese markets in towns like Edam and Gouda, and the stunning Keukenhof Gardens, where millions of tulips bloom each spring in a rainbow of colors.

Luxembourg

Nestled between France, Germany, and Belgium, Luxembourg is often described as a hidden gem of Europe. Despite its small size, this country boasts a wealth of natural beauty, medieval castles, and a rich history. The capital city, Luxembourg City, is a UNESCO World Heritage site with its impressive buildings and picturesque old town.

Explore the Mullerthal region, also known as Little Switzerland, for its dramatic rock formations and lush forests, perfect for hiking and outdoor adventures. Visit Vianden Castle, a beautifully preserved medieval fortress atop a hill, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.

Belgium

Belgium is a land of art, chocolate, and beer. Brussels, the capital, is a cosmopolitan city home to the iconic Atomium and the enchanting Grand Place, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Savor mouthwatering Belgian chocolates and indulge in some of the world’s finest beers, from Trappist ales to lambics.

For history buffs, explore the medieval cities of Bruges and Ghent, where cobblestone streets wind along picturesque canals and medieval architecture transports you back in time. Don’t forget to try traditional Belgian dishes like moules-frites (mussels and fries) and waffles at local eateries.

    • Hello Diane! The Tulips have a very short season in Holland that lasts from Mid- April to early May so by July, I don’t believe you would be able to see millions of tulips. Just another excuse to go back there one day!
