Best of Italy

September 25, 2018 to October 6, 2018

Our Best of Italy escorted group tour allows you to explore the very best of Italy’s hidden gems.  We will be featuring everything from amazing Roman antiquities and Venetian canals to the renaissance of Florence and the sunshine in Capri.  Italy is culturally rich with its wealth of architecture, history and priceless art and this vacation truly shows you why Italy is the best place to experience  “La Dolce Vita” or “The Good Life”.  Travel for 12 days as you make your way through Italy’s most historic and scenic areas, including Rome, Florence, Venice, Assisi, Sorrento, Capri and more, all with plenty of time for sightseeing at your leisure. You’ll enjoy Alpine peaks in the north, the olive groves and vineyards in the heart of Italy, and the warm waters, volcanic islands and Mediterranean lifestyle in the south. Take in-depth tours with local guides, enjoy included authentic quality dining and stay in premium hotels in the best locations Italy has to offer.

This tour has a well balanced pace with three nights in Rome, two nights in Florence, two nights in Venice, one night in Assisi and two nights in Sorrento.  The driving days are short and comfortable, interspersed with sightseeing.

Your journey begins aboard a motorcoach transfer from select cities to Chicago O’Hare, where you will board your overnight flight to Europe.

Welcome to Rome, a glorious city filled with Classical antiquities, medieval buildings, Renaissance palaces and baroque churches. Upon arrival in Rome, you will be transferred to your hotel.

The day is devoted to the ‘Eternal City'. Join a Local Expert for an in-depth visit to the Vatican Museums, full of priceless art treasures collected by the Popes. Insight has arranged special VIP entrance to avoid the crowds, together with behind-the-scenes access to the Bramante Staircase - a marvel of Renaissance architecture normally off-limits to the general public. Now into the Sistine Chapel, where the Popes are elected to admire Michelangelo's famous ceiling. Next door in St. Peter's Basilica, wonder at another of his works, the emotive ‘Pietà', and stand beneath the dome completed after his death. There's free time to do as the Romans do, or perhaps join a tour inside the Colosseum? Rome is about art, antiquity, piazzas and pizzazz, and our included walking tour this afternoon has it in abundance. Toss a coin into the spectacular Trevi Fountain, see the Pantheon, the best preserved monument from the Roman period, and enjoy free time for dinner in Piazza Navona.

Then, there’s free time to shop for Florence’s finest or continue sightseeing. This evening, don’t miss the chance to sample the fine Florentine cuisine - tasty starters, rich pastas, accompanied by Chianti wine.
