Itinerary
Welcome to Alaska’s largest and most metropolitan city. Your hotel is perfectly located, only a short walk from shops, museums, walking trails and many fine restaurants. If you would like to discover more about Anchorage, the Visitors Center on 4th Ave offers a fun Trolley Tour. It is a wonderful overview of the history, famous sites, Earthquake Park and even a drive by the largest float plane base in the world.
Today we travel beautiful Turnagain Arm as we make our way to Seward to board the exquisite Seven Seas Mariner. The drive to Seward is considered one of the Top 10 scenic byways in the world. Located on Resurrection Bay, Seward is a lovely Alaskan town. If there is time, it is a quaint place to explore with a walk along the harbor or a visit to the Alaska Sealife Center.
Relax on your first morning at sea. Explore the ship and all the activities they offer before we arrive at Hubbard Glacier. At a whopping 76 miles long and almost 6 miles wide where it meets the ocean, it is the largest tidewater glacier in North America. Hubbard can be quite active, so keep an eye on its 400-foot-high face for breathtaking calving!
Sitka was part of Russia until 1867 and still today St. Michael’s Orthodox Cathedral is topped with an onion dome. It is a beautiful, small town, easily explored on foot. Visit the 1842 Russian Bishop’s House or Sitka National Historical Park, the site of Russia’s defeat of the indigenous Tlingit people with a trail dotted with totem poles.
This morning we dock in Alaska’s capital, Juneau. There are many optional excursions to choose from. Whale Watching in Auke Bay is one of the most popular. You’ll get up close to humpback and orca whales, sea lions and other marine life. Take the tram to the top of Mt Roberts for an awesome view!
Skagway was the heart of the Gold Rush and you will still find many memories of that pioneering era. Wonder down Broadway and feel the spirit of the Days of ‘98! An optional excursion on the White Pass & Yukon Route Rail will certainly be a highlight. You are certain to find many things to keep you busy for the day. For even more options, take the Fast Ferry across the Lynn Canal to Haines, Alaska. A real Alaskan “outpost” with a Northern Exposure feel!
The Port of Ketchikan is our stop today. Of the many excursions offered here, float plane trips to Misty Fjord, totem parks, fishing excursions, zip lining, and even snorkeling are quite popular! It is also a shoppers' haven with a myriad of stores just steps from the ship. Stroll over to famous Creek Street to visit lovely boutique shops, watch for salmon, hike the wooded trails or take in a panoramic view from the Cape Fox Lodge.
Enjoy the amenities on your luxurious ship today as well as the spectacular scenery of the Inside Passage. Keep watch for humpback or orca whales and Dall porpoise frolicking in the ship’s wake.
Our ship arrives in Vancouver and disembarks soon after docking this morning. If you have time before your flight or want to stay an extra day or two, Vancouver is a beautiful city to explore.
