Ride a cable car to the top of iconic Table Mountain with stunning views over the city. Venture outside the city to see a colony of African penguins. Visit beautiful Cape Point Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its rich and unique flora. You will also visit Bo-Kaap, a lively area founded by former slaves where you will learn more about their culture.
Your journey continues in Makalali Private Game Reserve near Kruger National Park. Here, enjoy six game drives in an open-air, 4-wheel-drive Land Rover. Your professional ranger and skilled tracker will help you search for a remarkable number of species, including 42 mammal species and 350 bird species. You will have a great chance to see the “Big 5”—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and Cape buffalo. Have your camera ready because you may also see impala, giraffe, hippo, spotted hyena, cheetah, wildebeest and more. Stop for sundowner drinks in the bush too! Other highlights include Johannesburg’s unforgettable Apartheid Museum and Soweto, the country’s largest township, where you will visit the former home of Nelson Mandela. Experience stunning Mosi-oa-Tunya (the smoke that thunders) also known as Victoria Falls, spanning the border of Zimbabwe & Zambia. Take a guided walk along the falls, which is roughly twice the height of Niagara Falls. For a spectacular ending to our trip, we will cruise on the Zambezi River at sunset.

Your journey begins in Chicago O’Hare to board your overnight flight to Cape Town.
Welcome to Cape Town, commonly referred to as the “Mother City” by locals, as it was home to the first European settlement in South Africa. Hotel check-in is available mid-afternoon.

Begin the day at the Grand Parade to see the Castle of Good Hope and City Hall. Walk to see more of Cape Town’s landmarks including St George’s Cathedral, Parliament, and the Company’s Garden. Then, explore the local favorite Bo-Kaap neighborhood and visit the Bo-Kaap Museum and savor a traditional Malay lunch. Afterwards, take a scenic cable-car ride to the top of Table Mountain. Enjoy a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant this evening.

Today take a scenic drive along stunning Chapman’s Peak Drive which skirts the rocky coastline and is one of the most scenic drives in the world. Continue to Cape Point Nature Reserve for stops at the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point, the southwestern most point on the African continent. Here, take a funicular ride to the steps of the old lighthouse for spectacular panoramic views. After lunch, visit Boulders Beach to see a Colony of Endangered African Penguins known for the unique sound they make. Return to Cape Town and for an evening at leisure.

Enjoy a full day at leisure for your own discoveries. Perhaps explore the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, take an excursion to the stunning Cape winelands for wine tasting, or go whale watching in nearby Hermanus. Your Tour Director has suggestions to help you make the most of your day.

Today leave beautiful Cape Town on a flight to Hoedspruit and transfer to Makalali Private Game Reserve to begin your safari adventure. This area near Kruger National Park is famous for its abundance of wildlife. Here you will have a great chance of seeing the “Big 5”, lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and Cape buffalo. Enjoy your first game drive this afternoon. Your skilled tracker and professional ranger work together as a team so you can learn more about the ecosystem as you view wildlife up close. Sip sundowner drinks prior to returning to your lodge for dinner.

Rise early for coffee and tea before an early morning game drive. If the timing is right, you might spot some of the big cats after a night of hunting. Other animals you may see include kudu, impala, giraffe, hippo, cheetah, spotted hyena, and wildebeest. Return for breakfast mid-morning, followed by time to relax, and enjoy the lodge and its surroundings. Afternoon game drive with sundowner drinks. As the sun sets over the majestic Drakensburg Mountains, enjoy a memorable happy hour in the bush in the nostalgic tradition of early safari explorers.

Sharpen your game-spotting skills on your morning and afternoon game drives. Watch for African buffalo, reintroduced to the area after an absence of more than 50 years, reuniting the “Big Five” to roam freely in the Greater Makalali Nature. When not on a game drive, do as the lions do with a rest in the heat of the day. Enjoy your lodge amenities, swim in the pool, pamper yourself with a wellness treatment, kick back on a viewing deck or your private balcony to watch nearby wildlife.

Today’s sightseeing starts with an enriching visit to Soweto (Southwestern Township), the largest township in the country. Soweto is a part of South Africa’s turbulent past, but this multicultural area is also a reflection of today and hope for tomorrow. Along the way, see the neighborhood that was home to Nobel Peace Prize Winners Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela. Gain some perspective of life at the Mandela House where Nelson Mandela lived from 1946 to around 1960 when he was forced underground to elude arrest. You will also see the Hector Pieterson Memorial which is dedicated to the 12-year-old boy killed by police during a demonstration in 1976. This led to the Soweto Uprising, an important event in the long struggle to end apartheid some 14 years later. Visit the unforgettable Apartheid Museum to learn about the founding of South Africa before delving into the apartheid era. Using photos, video and print the museum takes you on an extraordinary journey through the apartheid years to the 1994 democratic elections that named Nelson Mandela president.

Today, leave South Africa and fly north to Zimbabwe. This evening, enjoy a cruise on the Zambezi River which is a wonderful opportunity to photograph wildlife and a spectacular African sunset! Transfer to the Zambezi River’s edge and board the cruise boat. You’ll be treated like royalty as you take in the scenery and watch for wildlife while sipping and sampling from a selection of included drinks and canapés. Your cruise culminates in a spectacular African sunset!

Take a guided walk at Victoria Falls, or Mosi-oa-Tunya (the smoke that thunders), as the locals call it, due to the clouds of mist produced by the cascading cataracts. Learn about the history of the falls and fascinating facts about the local flora and fauna with plentiful photo opportunities. Free time late morning and early afternoon. Your Tour Director hosts a riverside farewell dinner this evening. Free time tips include soaring high above the falls on an optional helicopter ride or visit a nearby village to experience the local culture.

South Africa & Zimbabwe:
Guests should check with their physician regarding the latest health requirements for travel to South Africa and Zimbabwe, which may differ. Evidence of yellow fever immunization may be requested, and some travelers have been turned around at immigration for not having sufficient proof of immunization. Other inoculations and/or taking anti-malaria pills may be required.
Included: Above pricing is per person based on double occupancy and subject to availability. Pricing includes current air taxes and fees of $593.05 per person and subject to change and a nonrefundable Fox World Travel Professional Fee of $50 per reservation. The Fox World Travel fee will be charged at the time of deposit and will show as an additional payment. Air package pricing is subject to change until air is contracted due to the volatility of airfare costs.
Not Included: Airline flights on land-only packages, air-imposed baggage fees, gratuities for airport porters, tour guides, motorcoach drivers, meals (other than those included in the package); optional excursions that may be offered, and any items of a personal nature. Travel insurance protection is not included but highly recommended. Ask your travel consultant about pricing and options.

Cancellation Penalties:
Fox World Cancellation Fee of $100.00 per reservation will apply in addition to any Fox Group Vacation or vendor cancellation penalties. Airline tickets are non-refundable once ticketed.

Prices will not increase after you make full payment, except for charges resulting from increases in government-imposed taxes or fees, fuel surcharges, exchange fluctuations or any combinations of these.
