Tuesday, April 16 – Tokyo- Monumental Metropolis
Start with a visit to Meiji Shrine, a magnificent 20th-century Shinto monument set in a man-made forest. At an artist’s studio, learn to write like a local during a calligraphy lesson with a master calligrapher, have the opportunity to try on a traditional kimono, and partake in a tea ceremony. After lunch, visit the Tokyo Skytree, the world’s tallest tower. Last stop is the Asakusa Kannon Temple and Nakamise shopping arcade. Tonight, join your travel companions at a welcome dinner hosted by your Tour Director.

Wednesday, April 17 – Tokyo Mount Fuji Excursion
Drive south along the coast to Kamakura to see the 750-year-old Great Buddha. Continue to Hakone where you’ll take a cable-car ride for panoramic views of spectacular Mount Fuji, Japan’s highest mountain. After lunch, cruise on Lake Ashi for more views of this beautiful area. Conclude the day with a thrilling shinkansen (bullet train) ride back to Tokyo!

Thursday, April 18 – Tokyo Glorious Wandering
Enjoy a full day at your leisure. Tokyo has something for everyone so visit one of the city’s unique neighborhoods like Ginza or Shibuya, visit the fun Samurai Museum, or embark a sunset dinner cruise on Tokyo Bay. Your Globus Tour Manager will have options today and throughout your tour available for purchase.

Friday, April 19 – Tokyo-Masumoto-Takayama
Journey to Matsumoto, gateway to the ruggedly beautiful Japanese Alps, and enjoy visits to a local wasabi farm and Matsumoto Castle. Tonight, enjoy a wonderful Japanese-style dinner at your hotel.

Saturday, April 20 – Takayama
Today begins at the morning market, where farmers display locally grown fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Visit Takayama Jinya, a former government office during the Edo Period from 1692-1868. This well-preserved building is a national historic site and the only remaining building of its kind in Japan. End with a fun sake tasting. The sake tasting is in the San-Machi Suji historic district—famous for lacquerware shops and sake breweries, and identified by the sugidama, balls made of cedar branches that hang over the entrances. The balance of the day is at your leisure allowing time to explore with transfers from town to your hotel every 2 hours.

Sunday, April 21- Takayama-Shirakawa–Kanazawa
This morning, enjoy a drive through the mountainous Shokawa Valley to Shirakawa; a remote region of Japan is home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Here explore the unique gassho-zukuri-style (joined hands) thatched houses that can be found only here. Continue to the scenic town of Kanazawa, situated between the mountains and the Sea of Japan. Explore Kenroku-en Garden and take part in a gold leaf class, where you’ll learn about this ancient craft and make your own bento box.

Monday, April 22 – Kanazawa-Kyoto
This morning, drive south to Kyoto. On arrival, participate in a Japanese cooking class for lunch. Participate in a special cooking class where, under the instruction of a local chef, you will learn how to make miso soup, teriyaki chicken, and makizushi, more commonly known as a sushi roll. Then, you’ll visit two of the city’s most important sites: Fushimi Inari Shrine renowned for the thousands of brightly colored Torii Gates. Afterward, continue to the Higashiyama District to visit Kiyomizu Temple, the “Pure Water Temple,” with stunning views over Kyoto. Along the way, walk through the busy streets, where shops and restaurants have been catering to pilgrims for centuries. This evening, you have the option to stay in a traditional Japanese ryokan (additional expense).

This morning starts with a visit to stunning Kinkakuji, the Temple of the Gold Pavilion. Next, visit Yuzen Handmade Corner to learn about the yuzen dyeing technique used to decorate kimonos by painting dye directly on the cloth. Make your own souvenir using this traditional method. End at Sanjusajendo Temple, famous for its 1,001 statues of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy. Flanking the main statue are 1,000 more life-sized statues, covered in gold leaf, with 40 arms said to have the power to save 25 worlds.

Travel to nearby Nara, to visit Kasuga Shrine and Todaiji Temple, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is one of the largest in Japan, and famous for its free-roaming deer, shrines, and temples. Kasuga Shrine, the most celebrated in Nara, is a Shinto shrine with some 3,000 stone and bronze lanterns. On the opposite end of the park is Todaiji Temple, one of Japan’s most significant temples. Originally built in 752 AD and again after a fire in 1692, the temple is only two-thirds its original size yet remains the world’s largest wooden building. The Daibutsu (Giant Buddha) inside the main hall is made of copper and bronze, and is the largest in all of Japan, weighing 250 tons and standing some 49 feet tall! Tonight, your Tour Director hosts a farewell dinner to celebrate your discovery of Japan.

Colleen will be hosting this tour as your Fox Tour Manager! Colleen’s career with Fox World Travel began in 1995. After escorting her first tour, a motorcoach group to Canada, she fell in love with the job and hasn’t stopped since. In her 20 plus years of being a tour manager, Colleen’s travels have taken her throughout the world. “I’ve met so many wonderful people and shared a multitude of experiences with them,” said Alsberg. Alaska is where her true expertise lies, and where she says her heart is, having traveled there over 30 times. The air-inclusive package includes air that has not yet been assigned, the identity of the carrier, which may include the carrier’s code-share partner, will be assigned and disclosed at a later date. Included: Above pricing is per person based on double occupancy and subject to availability. Pricing includes current air taxes and fees of $302.54 (subject to change) and a nonrefundable Fox World Travel Professional Fee of $50 per reservation.
Not Included: Airline flights on land-only packages, air-imposed baggage fees, gratuities for airport porters, tour guides, motorcoach drivers, meals (other than those included in the package); optional excursions that may be offered, and any items of a personal nature. Travel insurance protection is not included but highly recommended. Ask your travel advisor about pricing and options.
Terms: Minimum of 20 travelers required for the Fox World Travel tour manager to accompany the group. Hotels and daily itinerary are subject to change.

Your travel advisor can discuss options with you, including medical expense coverage, pre-existing medical condition exclusion waivers, trip cancellation, trip delay, lost, delayed or damaged baggage and more. To cover pre-existing conditions, most policies must be purchased within 14 days of making your initial deposit. Travel protection insurance prices are based on your age and the trip cost.
Cancellation Penalties:
From date of deposit to January 5, 2024: Initial deposit of $400.00 per person + Fox professional fee
January 6 to February 13, 2024: 50% package price cancellation fee + applicable airline fees
February 14 to March 14, 2024: 75% package price cancellation fee + applicable airline fees
March 15, 2024 to day of travel: No refunds
Fox World Cancellation Fee of $100.00 per reservation will apply in addition to any Fox Group Vacation or vendor cancellation penalties. Air tickets are non-refundable once ticketed.

There may be certain circumstances where your vacation may be subject to a price increase prior to full payment due to a supplier or government issued surcharge. Prices will not increase after you make full payment, except for charges resulting from increases in government-imposed taxes or fees, fuel surcharges, exchange fluctuations or any combinations of these.
