Daily Itinerary

Welcome to Anchorage, Alaska! Upon arrival, you’ll meet your Holland America Journey Host and Fox World Travel tour manager at the hotel. We encourage you to start exploring Alaska’s largest city! Your hotel is in walking distance to many shops, restaurants, museums and more!

Hotel: Hotel Captain Hook

A full free day in Alaska’s most metropolitan “frontier town!” One can keep very busy in Anchorage. You’ll find the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail for a nice walk, Ship Creek to watch fisherman, shops and restaurants galore on 4th Avenue. Hop on the Anchorage Trolley for a lovely optional tour of the city or explore one of the many museums in the area including the Alaska Native Heritage Center. Chat with your Holland America tour director for excursion suggestions too.

The McKinley Explorer train departs Anchorage at 9:15 am this morning. Relax as we travel through beautiful scenery. Lunch is included onboard. The train arrives in Denali National Park around 4:50 pm. This evening you are treated to dinner and a show at Music of Denali starting at 7:30 pm. After the show, check out Denali Square’s restaurant, bar, shops, live entertainment, and fire pits, all with a lovely mountain view (and free Wi-fi).

Get ready for a long day, but with lots of neat stops along the way. We depart in the morning (7:00 am-ish). After a few quick stops for photo opportunities, we’ll have lunch included in Minto. The scenery is amazing throughout. We stay in the Yukon’s capital Whitehorse tonight. There are many nice restaurants in walking distance to our downtown hotel. Relax this evening and get ready for another wonderful drive tomorrow.

Hotel: Goldrush Inn
Meals: Lunch

Ship sails at 9:00 PM.

We depart from Whitehorse this morning with a break in the quaint village of Carcross. Enjoy spectacular mountain scenery and a stop at Emerald Lake as we follow the route of the gold miners of 1898. We arrive in Skagway around Noon, where we board our beautiful Holland America ship, the Zaandam. Enjoy lunch onboard and then later this afternoon, we board the White Pass & Yukon Route Rail for an incredible journey. Watch for gorgeous views around every turn from our own parlor car! This narrow-gauge train is an engineering marvel and the most popular excursion in Skagway. We’ll be back onboard in time for a late dinner.

Scenic Cruising 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Today is a full day of cruising scenic Glacier Bay National Park. Immense glaciers surround us at every turn. You’ll see alpine glaciers in the mountains and beautiful tidewater glaciers at sea level. Your day culminates 65 miles into the park at Margerie and Grand Pacific glaciers. Keep an eye out for whales and other marine life, many types of birds and even wildlife on the shore. Park rangers and naturalists onboard will keep you informed as well.

11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Port of Ketchikan is our stop today. Of the many excursions offered here, float plane trips to Misty Fjord, totem parks, fishing excursions, zip lining, and even snorkeling are quite popular! It’s also a shopper’s haven with a myriad of stores just steps from the ship. Stroll over to famous Creek Street to visit lovely boutique shops, watch for salmon, hike the wooded trails, or take in a panoramic view from the Cape Fox Lodge.

Day at Sea

Your final day on board will be for you! Explore the ship, take in a game of pickleball, check out the casino, relax with a view in the Crow’s Nest, and dine to your heart’s content as we sail through the gorgeous inside passage of British Columbia. Tonight, join the group for a Farewell Cocktail Party.

Arrive at 7:00 a.m.

Our ship arrives this morning in Vancouver and disembarks soon after docking. If you have time before your flight or want to stay an extra day or two, Vancouver is a beautiful city to spend time. We recommend flights after 12:00 pm for Holland America airport transfers.
