Washington Dulles Airport (IAD) $20B Transformation Announced
United Airlines, the Airports Authority, and the U.S. Department of Transportation announced plans to transform IAD over the next ten years. Travelers can look forward to more than 5 million square feet of new or renovated space, new modernized concourses, an expanded Main Terminal, and new train service connecting the airport. The project will also include a new walkable path to a new, large U.S. Customers facility and improvements designed to the make the international arrival experience easier. There will also be improved baggage handling systems, additional concessions and lounges, and more United Club and United Polaris lounge space.
Delta Air Lines Joins Minnesota Leaders to Celebrate New Sustainable Aviation Fuel Blending Facility Serving Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport
The completion of a new sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) blending facility marks a significant step forward in expanding SAF availability at Delta’s second largest hub, Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP). SAF is an alternative jet fuel made from renewable feedstocks that significantly reduces carbon emissions compared to conventional fuel. The new facility will blend SAF with conventional jet fuel for MSP, which uses 250 million gallons annually of jet fuel.

The 2026 Dominance of the U.S.’s Top Four Airlines
Four carriers United Airlines, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Delta Air Lines account for more than three-quarters of the U.S. airline markets 741 million seats this summer. American is the largest U.S. airline by seat capacity, 23% more than United which is in fourth place. Delta and Southwest are close to each other in second and third. The big change to the list is Spirit Airlines, which has ceased operating.
U.S. FAA Certifies New Boeing 737-7 Airplane
The new Boeing 737-7 is now cleared for commercial service. It is the smallest and longest-range member of the 737 MAX family. The 737-7 model serves an important market segment by offering 135-160 seats in a two-class configuration, while providing about 10% more range than its siblings. This new aircraft also reduces fuel use and CO2 emissions by 20% and noise footprint by 50% compared to the airplanes it typically replaces.
